As
anticipated
by the
Ministry of
Agriculture,
Lands,
Forestry,
Fisheries
and the
Environment,
on October
16, when
Grenada
joined the
rest of the
world for
the World
Food Day
celebration,
it was
nothing
short of
extraordinary.
Celebrated
at the
National
Stadium
under the
theme ‘’Sustainable
Foods
Systems for
Food
Security and
Nutrition’’,
the
celebration
was utilised
to launch
two major
initiatives:
The “Zero
Hunger
Project”
and the
“Buy Local
Adventure”
which places
emphasis on
the
consumption
of foods
grown
locally.
Accepting an
invitation
from Dr
Malachy
Dottin,
Chief
Technical
Officer in
the Ministry
of
Agriculture,
who was in
charge of
the
celebration,
Grenada
Distillers
Limited
set up a
display of
Clarke’s
Court
flavoured
rums which
included,
Rum Sorrel,
Rum Lemon,
Rhythm
Coconut Rum,
Grenadian
Mojito,
which has
citrus and
mint
flavours,
Planters
Punch, Rum
Punch, Spicy
Rum and
Camerhogne
Liqueur.
Several
Ministers of
Government,
kindergarten,
primary,
secondary
and college
students
were joined
by members
of the
general
public in
the World
Food Day
celebrations
which
brought
together
local
manufacturers,
the Grenada
National
Marketing
and
Importing
Board,
Ministry of
Agriculture
among others
who used the
opportunity
to showcase
their
products
